Treating Issues with Sweating

Excessive sweating can affect more than a third of the population. This condition is basically brought about by genes, where someone from the sufferer’s family suffers from it. Besides genes, menopause, some medical problems like an overactive thyroid gland and antidepressant drugs can lead to excessive loss of sweat.

This condition can be quite embarrassing especially when it causes sweat patches or unpleasant body odour. Sweat does not in itself smell. It is because it causes a breeding ground for bacteria which breaks down the sweat to form fatty acids. The nasty body odour is caused by the fatty acids.

It is the hands, feet, groin, face and armpits which cause excessive sweating problems. Sometimes, this abundance formation of sweat can lead to a condition called bromhidrosis where yeast and bacteria break down sweat. These areas can get white, crackled, wrinkled, red and inflamed and cause general itchiness and discomfort to the sufferers.

Because of this, you should ensure you can fully cope with your sweating problems. A lot of people think that using deodorants will stop their sweating. Unfortunately not all deodorants have antiperspirant ingredients and will only mask the odor. If you want to prevent sweating and keep the problem areas dry, then it is best to buy an antiperspirant which contains aluminum chloride.

It is advisable not to wear clothes which cling to your body as this can cause excess sweating. Instead, wear clothing that is loose and breathe well. Another tip is to wear clothes that are lighter as stains will be less noticeable. Dark clothes not only attract heat, but stains on them are easily visible.

Drinking hot liquids should be avoided as they can cause you to sweat more. Water is the best liquid to drink as it can help to reduce any sweating by cooling you down.

Follow these tips and you will soon start to stop sweating.
