So you have guests coming but no spare bedroom to sleep them, a sofa bed could be the answer without losing your living space. You can get a sofa bed in pretty much any style and design that you want and whether they are fold down or pull out metal mechanisms there will be one to suit your home. Day beds provide another type where it is both a sofa and a bed at the same time.

Space Saving Sofa Beds

Having a sofa bed in a room is not only a great space saving option, but many teens like having this option in their room because they can change the look of their bedroom from a bedroom to a lounge type area and have friends over. Indeed even in dorm rooms where space is not neccessarily an issue sofa beds are used to allow students to have a space that is a little more relaxed than a sleeping room.

Types Of Sofa Bed

Sofa Beds have come a long way over the years. In the beginning the only ones easily available were very bulky and uncomfortable sofas, however, luckily progress in design and manufacture has produced a huge selection of products that are not only contemporary and beautiful but work well as both couches and as beds. Todays sofa beds are available in a range of materials and finishes, including leather sofa beds and the once lowly futon has recieved many a makeover and can now be found in apartments and homes everywhere, there are even full leather futons for the ultimate in chic simple sleeping and seating comfort.

There are however, some downsides to Sofa Beds. Metal frame pull out models can be difficult to man handle into position and con often be uncomfortable as they the metal frame can interfere with the sleeper. Although this is very uncomfortable it can be corrected by purchasing a bed that offers a much better mattress or indeed a replacement sofabed mattress. Couches that fold down into beds often are uncomfortable at the fold part as it is not natural to have a seam like this in a normal bed, this can be corrected, however with a mattress topper that lays over the whole couch when it is in its bed condition. Daybeds are only a type of sofabed by name as they are really a bed that has occassional use as a sofa rather than a sofa that becomes a bed.

Overall, most sofa beds offer great seating and mediocre sleeping. However, this will vary depending on the quality of the bed. When purchasing a sofa bed it would behoove you to actually set up the bed portion and lay on it yourself to see how it works for you.
